DARA Open Fellowships

With the academy's Open Fellowships, DARA aims to support exceptional candidates in pursuing curiosity-driven research within the technical, natural, and medical sciences.

Whether examining fundamental scientific questions, probing creative hypotheses, developing novel methodologies, or translating insights into societal benefit, a research project should embody a visionary and transformative premise with the capacity to spark new directions within research areas covered by the Novo Nordisk Foundation.

Scientific Scope

The DARA Open Fellowships Calls embrace proposals within natural, medical, and technical sciences, committed to advancing scientific knowledge in fields that are central to improving public health and promoting sustainability, in line with the strategic research themes of the Novo Nordisk Foundation.

Applicants may pursue either mono- or interdisciplinary projects. In keeping with DARA’s mission, proposals should exhibit transformative potential, whether by opening new scientific frontiers, refining existing paradigms, or leading to tangible benefits for people and society.

Addressing a specific research question

DARA Thematic Fellowships

DARA’s Thematic Fellowships will address specific and pressing research questions in scientificareas covered by the Novo Nordisk Foundation.

For Thematic Fellowships, funding will be awarded to fellows pursuing research projects in specific and predefined scientific themes and within areas in which societal challenges are particularly pressing. As for the Open Fellowships, the Thematic Fellowship will advance knowledge in research fields promoting human and planetary health.

Scientific scope

The scientific areas and boundaries of the thematic fellowships will be outlined in each call for this type of fellowship. Themes will vary over the years of DARA.
